Aeration

Aeration
Have you been trying to get your lawn to really pop but it seems to be struggling to stay alive? There are many factors involved in having a lawn grow fresh and green, from having enough nutrients in the soil to maintaining good moisture levels. One other way to improve the health of your lawn is by having it aerated. Aeration helps to improve the health of the soil simply by pointing holes in the ground, it's amazing how much difference such a simple process can have on your lawn, taking it to the next level without you needing to break the bank.

Benefits
There are a lot of chemicals and treatments sold at gardening stores that have wild claims to improve your lawn but deliver disappointing results. It can leave you scratching your head as to how to get your grass to grow better. Often the simplest solution is best, instead of pouring more and more chemicals on your grass, consider a mechanical approach. Lawn aeration encourages the growth of microfauna and microflora that require oxygen to grow, improving the drainage of the soil and making it easier for worms to thrive within the soil. All these benefits come from simply aerating your soil, rather than purchasing more products to be used.

Process
Lawn aerators come in many different shapes and sizes, but they all have the same concept in their design. Small spikes are used to make holes in the compacted dirt, loosening the soil and allowing more oxygen and water to get into the ground. There are many simple lawn aerators available that can be used, but these tend to push the soil deeper into the ground, whereas professional aerators remove a small column of soil like a cookie-cutter – this allows for better aeration right through the soil. Our team is equipped with high-quality aeration equipment to get the best result for your soil.

How often do I aerate my lawn?
So many tasks that you perform on your lawn and garden need to be repeated week after week and can be exhausting to keep up with. Anything from mowing to pruning and fertilizing is something that needs to be kept on top of, but thankfully with aeration, it's not the same case. Aeration works to de-compact the soil and helps encourage growth at the beginning of the growing season, so it only needs to be performed once or twice a year, so it isn't something you have to be worrying about week in and week out to have performed to your lawn.

Best time of year
As with anything to do with gardening and lawn care, there are ideal seasons to prepare for the best growth in your plants. If you're looking to plan ahead and get the best results for your lawn, aeration is best performed in spring to encourage the most growth during the growing season. Make sure you're getting the best prep in for your lawn by organizing early aeration of your soil with Montgomery Landscaping, we can let you know when the best time is for aeration of your lawn and book in a time with you to come and do it for you, so you can enjoy a luscious and green lawn.
